About
Michael Lombard was accredited as a Specialist in personal injury law in 1993 and obtained his mediation accreditation in 2013. He is now working exclusively as a mediator with his own practice, Lombard Mediation.
Prior to this, Michael was a partner at Adviceline Injury Lawyers/Holding Redlich where he was awarded Personal Injury Lawyer of the Year 2019 by Best Lawyers® in Australia.
Michael’s experience includes high-profile cases such as the Bourke Street Rampage, the Flinders Street Tram Stop Attack, the Kerang Train Disaster and the Burnley Tunnel Crash. He has represented parties in a broad range of injury circumstances including a Defence Force helicopter crash in Afghanistan, as well as a variety of industrial accidents.
Beyond this, Michael served as a director of the Law Institute of Victoria from 2015 to 2018 and is a current member of the Law Institute Ethics Committee. He also has an extensive knowledge of medical negligence litigation through his ten years as a trustee of LawAid, during four of which he was Chairman.

What are Michael’s fees?
- Half day mediation – $2,200 (Incl. GST), Multi-Party Disputes – $1,100 (incl. GST) per party
- Full day mediation – $4,400 (Incl. GST), Multi-party Disputes – $2,200 (incl. GST) per party
Upon request, Michael can provide a quote for mediations in rural centres, accounting for travel time and sundry expenses.
What happens if a mediation is cancelled?
If a mediation is cancelled on short notice and Michael is unable to replace it, Michael reserves the right to charge an appropriate cancellation fee.
What times am I able to book a mediation?
Unless there are special circumstances, morning mediations can commence at 9.30am or 10am. Afternoon mediations can commence at either 2pm or 2.30pm.

Michael is prepared to conduct mediations in country centres and is happy to discuss special requests.
How do I organise a venue for a mediation?
It is the responsibility of the parties to arrange the venue for the mediation. There are a variety of venues in Melbourne CBD. A list of some venues is below:

When should I deliver the mediation brief?
The mediation brief should be delivered no less than 3 days prior to the mediation. Its contents should be agreed between the parties. Michael can provide a guide for what should and should not be included for different categories of mediation.
What is required for a multi-party litigation?
Defendants in multi-party litigation in the County Court are reminded that they are required, no less than 10 days prior to the mediation, to conduct a contribution conference. The purpose of this conference is to avoid the delay in dealing with the Plaintiff at the mediation if contribution between Defendants has not been resolved. There is a County Court practice note to that effect. Commonsense dictates that the same approach should be adopted in Supreme Court matters
